Fariborz Pakseresht has been Director of the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) for the past 6 years. As the largest state agency in Oregon, ODHS with 10,000 staff and a $10.8 billion budget serves 1.5 million Oregonians.

Director Pakseresht has a long history of service to Oregon. He came to ODHS from the Oregon Youth Authority (OYA) where he was responsible for the state’s juvenile corrections agency. During his time at OYA, he was honored with the Outstanding Administrator Award from the Council of Juvenile Corrections Administrators for his leadership and contributions in the field of juvenile justice. Earlier in his career, he served eight years with DHS in a variety of leadership roles. He also spent 11 years with the Department of Administrative Service.

His community activities include serving on the board of directors for the YMCA of Marion and Polk counties, the board of the Salem Peace Plaza, and on the planning committee of the Annual Salem Peace Lecture. He also is a fellow in the American Leadership Forum and a member of the Oregon Solutions Camp Odyssey Team.

In his 33 years serving Oregon State government in a variety of leadership roles, Fariborz has focused on system improvement, outcome-based management, and people centered leadership. He has been recognized for sponsoring ground-breaking research and data analytics to improve outcomes. His interests include management theories and practices, personal and organizational change, human potential, communications, quantum physics, and mindfulness.

Mr. Pakseresht earned his undergraduate degree in political science from Willamette University in Salem and holds a certificate in public management from Willamette’s Atkinson Graduate School of Management.
